[Press Release] Inconsistent embryo selection across polygenic score methods

Research results using samples and information of BioBank Japan (BBJ) have been published in the international scientific journal Nature Human Behaviour.

A joint research team led by Prof. Shinichi Namba, Invited Faculty Member, and Prof. Yukinori Okada, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University, has analyzed the challenges and limitations faced by private enterprises worldwide in offering polygenic risk score (PRS) analysis of embryos as part of preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) for IVF. In silico simulations utilizing publicly available genotype data from BioBank Japan reveal that embryo selection is highly dependent on the choice of polygenic scoring methods and the inherent randomness in score generation, raising ethical concerns.
