NEWSPress Release
Research results using samples and information from BioBank Japan (BBJ) have been published in the online edition of the international scientific journal Communications Medicine.
A joint research team led by Assistant Professor Tatsuhiko Naito and Professor Yukinori Okada at Osaka University assessed the relationship between the polygenic risk score (PRS) and individual risk of lifestyle-related diseases associated with certain environmental factors, utilizing data from UK Biobank (UKB) and BBJ. Although the positive correlations of PRS and the diseas risk are observed between obesity and type 2 diabetes in UKB and between smoking and coronary artery diseases in BBJ, most relationships are weak or negative, suggesting that high-PRS groups will not necessarily benefit most from environmental factor prevention.
